National Workshop on International Mangrove Day 2018
To commemorate the International Mangrove Day, Gujarat Ecology Commission (GEC), had organized a two day National Workshop on Mangrove Conservation: Present Status & Future Perspectives on July 26 and 27, 2018 in partnership with GEER Foundation and IUCN. The workshop was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister, Forest Department, Government of Gujarat Shri Ganpatsinh Vasava along with Dr. Ashok Kumar Saxena, IFS PCCF & Member Secretary, Gujarat Ecology Commission; Shri R. L. Meena, IFS PCCF & Chairman, Gujarat Bio-diversity Board; Shri M.M. Sharma, IFS APCCF (D&M, Forest Department); Shri R. D. Kamboj, IFS Director, GEER Foundation; Dr. B. B. Burman, Advisor, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India; Dr. N.M. Ishwar, Programme Coordinator, IUCN; Dr. Ram Ratan Nala, IFS Director, Gujarat Ecology Commission and Shri I. K. Barad, Dy. Director, GEER Foundation.
Mangrove experts from GEC, GEER Foundation, IUCN, University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia; MSSRF, Tamil Nadu, MFF, GUIDE, Action for Protection of Wild Animals, Odisha; Nature Environment & Wildlife Society; NABARD; UNDP; Mangrove Society of India; Kolkata University; NCSCM, Chennai; Carmel College, Goa; Maharashtra Forest Department and Godrej. Participation of many national agencies, students and experts working in mangrove sector was the highlight of the workshop. The two day workshop focussed on conservation and management of mangrove ecosystem and deliberated on issues, challenges and ways to adapt in the future.
