In the last two years through ICZMP, GEC has implemented several activities in Kachchh district to augment the water resources, which includes pond renovation, water recharge mechanisms etc. These interventions have helped the rural community of the ICZM project villages, such as Jungi, Lagdhirgadh, Modpar, Chopadva, Mori, Narayansarovar, Kaiyari, Mundhvai and Jhakau by ensuring year around water supply for farming and cattle.
Water resources augmentation work under ICZMP in Jungi, Lagdhirgadh, Modpar, Chopadva, Mori, Narayansarovar, Kaiyari, Mundhvai and Jhakau villages of Kachchh has directly benefited more than almost 19,000 people and over 15,000 cattle.
In 2015, GEC has done mangrove plantation in over 550 ha. in Gulf of Khambhat that supports livelihood of local community in terms of increase in fish catch and employment through mangrove plantation. Through this GEC strives to ensure sustainable livelihood options while restoring invaluable ecosystem, mangroves.
