Gujarat reefs get a helping hand from Mannar

A key marine wealth that disappeared from the face of Gujarat coast has made a spectacular comeback due to the efforts of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI). In what is perhaps the largest coral reef restoration project in the world,
ZSI has been successful in regenerating the unique `branching cor als' from the southern tip of Gulf of Mannar to Gulf of Kutchch in Gujarat.

CCEA approves restructuring of Coastal Zone Management project

NEW DELHI: Proposal for restructuring the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) project, which is aimed at protecting and conserving the coastal environment, was today approved by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
Proposed by the Environment Ministry, CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its approval to the restructuring the project which includes revising the cost estimate from Rs 1155.60 crore to Rs 1580.10 crore.

Gujarat to restore habitat for sloth bears in Jessore

AHMEDABAD : Gujarat government has taken up a project to provide better habitat to sloth bears by restoring the ecology of Jessore wildlife sanctuary, where more trees will be planted and and unwanted vegetation removed.
As per the last census in 2011, nearly 293 sloth bears were found in the state forests.

Gujarat to initiate project to restore ecology of saline areas

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat, which possesses more than 1.2 million hectares of arid area due to salinity ingress, is planning to initiate a project to turn the vast tracks of saline land into grassland and restore green cover of those areas.
In this regard, the Gujarat Ecology Commission of the state's forest and environment department has taken up a pilot project in a village near Gulf of Khambhat and will subsequently implement in other areas also.
