Van Ki Baat – photography exhibition to celebrate International Day of Forests 2016 under GEC – ENVIS


As a part of its continuous efforts to create awareness about various ecosystems, Gujarat Ecology Commission organized a photography competition Van ki Baat to commemorate International Day of Forests. More than 500 photographs on forests were received from different parts of the country. To showcase these treasures of our forests, we have organized an exhibition, which was inaugurated at L&P Hutheesing Visual Art Centre, Ahmedabad on March 21, 2016 the International Day of Forests.

The exhibition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri Punamchand Parmar, IAS Principal Secretary, Forests & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat in presence of senior officials of the Forest Department such as Shri Dinesh Misra, IFS PCCF & HoFF; Dr. J.A. Khan IFS PCCF (Wildlife) and Shri Kuldeep Goel, IFS Chairman, Gujarat Biodiversity Board. The exhibition began with an overview on International Day of Forests by Shri S. K. Chaturvedi, IFS Member Secretary, Gujarat Ecology Commission. The Chief Guest in his inaugural address gave an insight about forests and forest life and encouraged the participants to take more and more meaningful photographs that speaks without words.

Winners of the Van Ki Baat – photography competition were felicitated on International Day of Forests March 21, 2016. The felicitation ceremony was held at L&P Hutheesing Visual Art Centre, Ahmedabad. The winners were awarded by the Chief Guest, Shri Punamchand Parmar, IAS Principal Secretary, Forests & Environment Department, Government of Gujarat, senior officials of Forest Department and by Shri S. K. Chaturvedi, IFS Member Secretary, Gujarat Ecology Commission. The winners were given a Certificate of Excellence and cheques. Details of winners are as follows:

First Prize: Bhavya Joshi (Rs. 10,000/-)
Second Prize: Pritesh Patel (Rs. 7,500/-)
Third Prize: Anuj Raina (Rs. 5,000/-)
Consolation Prize: Dilip Giri Goswami (Rs. 2,000/-)

The photographs received for the competition were screened by an expert jury, which consisted of following members:
• Shri Jhaverilal Mehta, eminent photojournalist with more than 65 years of experience
• Shri Mukesh Acharya, well known wild life photographer and naturalist
• Shri Shailesh Raval, senior photojournalist

The exhibition of winning entries and selected photographs were open for general public from March 21 to 23, 2016 at L&P Hutheesing Visual Art Centre, Ahmedabad.
