Demonstrative course on community based mangrove conservation

A month long course on community based mangrove conservation has begun from September 25, 2018 as a part of Green Skill Development Programme implemented by GEC-ENVIS Hub. The course is being conducted for 50 participants by sector experts in Bharuch district. The course details are as follows:

• Introduction to mangrove ecosystem, mangrove species diversity and ecosystem services
• Mangrove ecology and environment
• Mangrove associated flora and fauna
• Mangrove propagation and nursery techniques
• Transplantation of mangroves
• Threats and stress on mangroves
• Conservation & management strategies
• Socio-economic assessment and supplementary livelihoods

• Growing demand in field and lab technical posts
• Opportunities in the field of tourism industries (as tourist guides) in addition to NGOs, research institutions, universities etc.
• Self employment to coastal rural youth and socio-economic upliftment of coastal population in utilizing mangrove resources
